اسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

We decided to indulge in a little adventure on our third day in Iceland. Using similar website (Nordic Visitor), we booked a hiking tour at Landmannalaugar located at Fjallabaki Nature Reserve. The track wasn't anything as adventurous as Preikestolen but it was an interesting one.

Our ride of the day!
Tips:

  • If you plan to rent a car and would like to visit Landmannalaugar, you have to make sure the car is either an MPV or a 4WD. There was no asphalt route to get to the tracks.
  • You could camp here too! Campsite informations available HERE

It was an extreme and rough Martian-like route. Everywhere we turn, everything seems so strange and alienated.

On our way, we stopped at an inactive crater for some photos. It was not a particularly sunny day, hence the photo couldn't do justice. In all actuality, the water collected at the bottom of the crater was emerald-coloured. It was fascinating.

One of the most active volcano known as Hekla or Gate of Hell by the locals was also situated along the way. Hekla has always been scheduled to erupt every other 10 years in the past. But, this time Hekla is having a setback by 5 years meaning it hasn't erupt in 15 years! When we were told about this, we just had to judge our decision again why do we choose Iceland. What if the volcano erupted when we were there? Alhamdulillah, that never happen.

The mountain that was snow-capped is Hekla. Two contradicting nature massively co-exists in Iceland. The locals often regard Iceland as 'The Land of Fire and Ice'.
Landmannalaugar consists of colourful mountains due to centuries of volcanic activities. Due to the activities, there are a few hot springs available as well. You could bathe there if you like but be wary, there are no changing rooms provided around the area. In addition, the hot spring is a mixed-gender pool. For muslim women, it wouldn't be as appropriate.

Few ice blocks were still rock-solid along the trail.

Volcanic ashes and ice.

Orange ashes could be seen from the trail.

And the sun decided to show up for a brief second here. Wouldn't you enjoy the view? There was also sulphur waves located around Landmannalaugar. It was a little bit hard to breathe.

God's  'painting' for His servants to reflect.

Our hiking trail was a particularly short one. The return journey only took about 2 hours maximum. There were several other longer trails available too. Some trails even take up days, so plan your activities according to your preferences.

During this particular day as well, our tour bus made a short stop at the Hjalparfoss waterfall which connects two waterfalls from Hekla mountains.

It wasn't anything special but the nature that caught our attention was the weird rock formation. How amazing is the creation of Allah. The most unthinkable nature can be seen throughout the whole island.

The duration of our journey for today was around 12 hours. So, we recommend you to bring packed foods and beverages.

Third day in Iceland, has ended.
