Discover Italy [ When in Rome... ]
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
اسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
So last December, right after my exam, we hopped on a train to London Luton Airport, took the flight to Italy. The journey took almost 2 hours with magnificent view of winter sunset & Swiss Alps. I managed to capture the beautiful time-lapse of sun setting off but I have completely no idea how to upload it here.
Upon reaching Rome Fiumicino Airport, we took a bus to Rome city centre. It took almost 2 hours due to occasional traffic jams here and there. So when we reached Roma Termini (the central train station), first thing we did was finding an Italian sim card. Yes, we're that anti-social. Hehe. There is a national carrier outlet at the Termini named TIM. The package was tolerable. For 17 Euros, we were given 3GB of data for a month. You just need to show your passport to the reception upon registration. So after buying the sim card, we look for Halaal food, & went to find our B&B. Everything was pre-booked on Booking.com. Makes life super easy. They have a strict Tourist City Tax which makes you pay extra during checking in. We reached our B&B, slept soundly, woke up the next morning, checked out and ready to explore Rome.
Since we does not have any place to leave our bags, we choose to leave it at the Termini. Their Left Luggage service is a bit expensive but there is not really that much choice. Again, some form of identification is needed for proof.
Our first destination was surprise, surprise, the Colosseum! From Roma Termini, the walk took about 15-20 minutes to get there. There is an entrance fees for the local attractions around it. But we bought the pass online. It is highly advisable since the queue was unbelievably long if you are to buy it at the counter. Plus, you would have access to 3 places with the pass. Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine. We bought our pass from Coopculture.it. And enough writing, I'll let the photos do all the talking.
Ever so iconic, Colosseum. |
Palatine. |
Roman Forum. |
We returned to Roma Termini after visiting these three places & prayed in one of the Halaal restaurant there. That is the end of our day in Rome. On the very same day, we hopped on a train heading to Florence. That chronology shall be written in my next entry.
